Education/Exams Leading to the ARM Certification
Education
Education is the foundation upon which the ARM certification is built. IREM is internationally renowned for courses and training that reflect today's management practices and new ideas. The knowledge you gain through the IREM educational experience can differentiate you from others within the profession. Choose one of the following IREM educational paths to meet the requirement for the ARM certification.
Option 1. For the most time- and cost-efficient path, complete “Successful Site Management” (RES201), which covers the management of your entire property from A to Z in one course. Available in classroom, online and home study, this course covers all site management topics outlined in Option 2.
NOTE: If you take the RES201 course via online or home study format, you must register for the ARM Certification Exam separately. For more information about taking the ARM certification exam with a proctor, download "Scheduling a Certification Exam".
Successful completion of “Successful Site Management” (RES201) and passing the ARM Certification Exam fulfills the education and exam requirement for the ARM certification.
Option 2. Should you wish to concentrate on one subject at a time or if you would like more flexibility in completing the required courses, you may choose to complete one course at a time. Complete four IREM courses from the list below—available in classroom, online and home study.
If you have previously completed other IREM courses that are not specified above,
view the ARM Course Equivalency Chart to see how these courses can earn credit toward the ARM education requirement.
Option 3. Another way to fulfill the ARM education requirement is to hold any of these certifications:
- Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) - through the National Apartment Association (NAA)
- Certified Residential Manager (CRM) - through the Minnesota Multi-Housing Association (MHA)
- Registered Apartment Manager (RAM) - through the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
- Certified Property Manager (CPM) - through IREM
Option 4. Have an undergraduate or graduate degree (e.g., major, minor, or concentration) in real estate or property management, or an associate's degree in a non-commercial property or real estate program.
Option 5. For the most time- and cost-efficient path, complete "Common Interest Developments: Managing Condominium Association Properties" (CID 201), which covers the management of your entire property from A to Z in one course. Available in classroom, online and home study, this course covers all site management topics outlined in Option 2.
