Education/Exams Leading to the ACoM Certification
Education
The ACoM certification is built upon knowledge and training essential to managers of small commercial properties. IREM is internationally renowned for courses and training that reflect today's management practices and new ideas. The knowledge you gain through the IREM educational experience can differentiate you from others within the profession. Choose one of the following IREM educational paths to meet the requirement for the ACoM certification.
Option 1. Complete four IREM courses from the list below—available in classroom, online and home study.
If you have previously completed other IREM courses that are not specified above,
view the ACoM Course Equivalency Chart to see how these courses can earn credit toward the ACoM education requirement.
Option 2. Another way to fulfill the ACoM education requirement is to hold any of these certifications:
- CCIM – through the CCIM Institute
- CSM – through International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC)
- PCAM – through Community Associations Institute (CAI)
- RPA – through Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI)
- CPM - though IREM
Option 3. Have an undergraduate or graduate degree (e.g., major, minor, or concentration) in real estate or property management, or an associate's degree in a non-residential property or real estate program.
Examination
Pass the "ACoM Certification Exam" (CMLEXM), which covers these competency areas: ethics, financial operations, human resources management, legal and risk management, maintenance and operations, marketing and leasing.

Ethics
Complete IREM ethics education in one of two ways:
1. Complete "Introduction to IREM Ethics" (ETH001)
2. Attend "Ethics for Real Estate Manager" (ETH800)
Pledge to uphold the
IREM Code of Professional Ethics.
