Toronto CPM Elected President of REIC as REIC Celebrates 50th Anniversary
The Real Estate Institute of Canada's (REIC) celebration of its 50 th anniversary was the focal point of this year's REIC Annual General Meeting, which was held May 25-29 in Toronto. Among the 200 attendees were IREM President-Elect Fred Prassas, CPM, and Russell Salzman, IREM's CEO/Executive Vice President.

Andrew L. B. Gordon, CPM, was installed as the new president of REIC for the 2005-2006 year, commencing May 29.  A Senior Commercial Manager at H & R Developments in Toronto, Andrew also serves on the Management Board of the Toronto Chapter of REIC.

Other newly-installed REIC officers for the 2005-2006 year are:

President-Elect - Christine Stanley, CPM, of Vancouver, BC
Secretary/Treasurer - Lucien Roy, CPM, of Edmonton, AB

During the meeting, action was taken to amend REIC's bylaws, largely a result of the changes in the partner agreement between IREM and REIC that was signed in late 2003. One of the changes was the renaming of the IREM Canada Council, which had been required by the previous IREM-REIC agreement, as the Real Estate Property/Asset Management Council. IREM members in Canada will be represented through this council. Chairing the Real Estate Property/Asset Management Council for the coming year is Chrystal Skead, CPM, ARM, of Edmonton, AB; Tina Umphrey, CPM, of Toronto, ON, is chair-elect.

IREM, REIC Enter into New Partner Agreement
IREM and REIC have worked collaboratively – and successfully – in Canada for more than two decades and under various types of agreements. The most recent agreement between the two organizations, signed in November 2003, governs the usage of and protects both IREM's and REIC's registered marks and establishes the relationship between the two entities. The new agreement addresses the delivery of education, credentialing, and member and chapter services to IREM members in Canada directly and via REIC.

While there, IREM representatives met with REIC officers and the task force that had been appointed to address the REIC/IREM relationship to discuss the partner agreement and its terms.
