IREM Member Honored for Contributions to Real Estate Management Knowledge and Education

John W. Magnuson, CPM®, Receives Prestigious
Lum Award from the IREM® Foundation

(Chicago, May 22, 2006) The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public foundation, recently honored IREM member John W. Magnuson, CPM, with its prestigious Louise L. and Y.T. Lum Award. The Lum Award is presented periodically to honor real estate professionals who have made a distinguished contribution to the real estate management industry by advancing the depth or breadth of knowledge and education among the practicing profession.

MORE THAN TWO DECADES OF SERVICE
Magnuson was President of Magnuson Management, Inc., Tacoma, WA, and co-founder of one of the region’s first Real Estate Investment Trusts in 1993. He has been a member of the IREM faculty for more than 20 years and was recently honored as an Instructor Emeritus.   He has taught real estate investment and management principles in Poland, Hungary, Italy and Korea and is the author of a book titled Hot Topics: Exit Strategies for Real Estate Management Companies.

In presenting the award to Magnuson, IREM Foundation President Craig Suhrbier noted that his contributions to IREM and the industry are legendary. “In addition to his outstanding record as an educator, John constantly seeks new techniques and strategies to improve the industry.  As well,” said Suhrbier, “he enhances our profession by adhering to rigorous ethical as well as intellectual standards and inspiring others to do likewise.”

Magnuson earned his CPMdesignation from IREM in 1975 and has over the years held leadership positions in the organization both at the chapter and national levels. He was president of IREM’s Western Washington Chapter No. 27 in 1981 and served as National President of IREM in 1991. He is a founding trustee of the Washington Center for Real Estate Research, and has served as a member of the Washington State Investment Board since 1999.
