Soldiers and Sailors Act Update
January 2004
In December the President signed legislation allowing for protections for our military serving abroad. Amongst these protections are certain changes regarding residential leases. In general, the law gives military families the right to terminate a lease if the deployment is more than 90 days, and prevents the landlord from evicting a family while a family member is deployed. IREM has requested that legal counsel review the new law, and provide guidance on how to comply. This review is expected shortly, and will be available on the IREM website.
