Volunteer on an IREM committee or board

IREM committees and boards help guide and support the various products, programs, and initiatives that make IREM relevant, support members, and grow. If you want to join IREM's volunteer community and make the organization and the real estate management industry better, start by exploring the opportunities below – you'll find the purpose, composition, availability, and member commitment for each of our committees and boards.

All IREM members interested in volunteering must submit an application. Applications are now closed for 2020 Committee/Board Applications.

Please contact ivolunteer@irem.org if you have any questions

  • Who can serve in volunteer positions?

All IREM members are eligible and invited to serve. However, all governance activities, documents, and materials are presented in English. Likewise, virtual meetings and conference calls are scheduled in North American time zones.

  • How will I make a difference by serving as an IREM volunteer?

Our volunteers are passionate about IREM and the property management profession. Our volunteers benefit both personally and professionally when they collaborate with their peers and are doing work that moves the profession and IREM forward. You can make a difference by:

    • Supporting IREM’s mission and strategic goals
    • Contributing to the success of IREM’s key initiatives and programs
    • Sharing industry knowledge and forward-thinking ideas
    • Establishing valuable personal and professional connections
    • Honing your leadership skills
    • Promoting IREM as the greatest champion for all property management professionals
  • What would be my commitment as an IREM volunteer?
    • Attend and actively participate on all virtual meetings scheduled throughout the year for all committees and boards – attendance and participation is tracked.
    • Attend the Global Summit in Dallas, TX (October 17-20, 2022); please note that all expenses related to attending the Global Summit are the responsibility of the volunteer.
    • Participate in activities as defined by your assigned groups’ scope of work and act in good faith and in accordance with what is in the best interest of IREM.
    • Review all agendas and relevant material prior to meetings and be prepared to contribute to discussions and vote on important issues.
    • Assist your assigned groups in achieving its goals.
    • Terms are typically for one year, with a few assignments for more than one year.
    • 2022 terms begin January 1, 2022 and end December 31, 2022.
  • How and when are volunteers selected?
    • You will be notified of the status of your application via email by August 2021.
    • If appointed, you must accept your appointment via the link you receive and by the deadline in order to activate your assignment.
    • If you do not take action to accept your assignment and/or do not wish to accept the invitation to serve, the appointment will become invalid and you will be removed from the group.
    • The list of all 2022 appointments will be available at the Global Summit in October 2021.

"As professionals, I’m sure we all take pride in the work we do day-to-day at our jobs. But the time I’ve spent with IREM as a committee member and Chair, is without a doubt some of the most gratifying. The investment I’ve made in this organization has been returned to me ten-fold. Best of all, there are opportunities for all who step forward; ARMs, CPMs, ACoMs or Associate Members – all are welcomed and encouraged to share their unique points of view. IREM gives everyone the opportunity to make a difference"
