J. Benjamin McGrew, CPM, CCIM
2017 IREM President-elect
Benjamin McGrew, CPM, CCIM, is the 2017 President-elect of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). McGrew is also President and Majority Shareholder of MANAGEWEST, Inc., a professional, full-service management company based in Sacramento, California.
Starting out as a maintenance man, McGrew’s property management career began in 1980 when he became involved in property management and commercial real estate, managing all types of commercial investment properties. He earned his CPM designation in 1987, and began to actively participate in his local chapter. Once he ran out of local positions/committees to serve on, McGrew moved on to national participation, starting with IREM’s Governing Council and Regional Vice President for California and Hawaii, and then on to the IREM Executive Committee. McGrew’s goal is to be able to give back to IREM and its members even a small percentage of what he feels IREM has given to him and his career.
McGrew is also a member of the Sacramento Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, and the California Receivers’ Forum – Sacramento Chapter. He also holds the CCIM designation from the CCIM Institute.
Since 1983, McGrew has served as both a Receiver for the Superior Court (taking over the management of properties primarily in default under the court’s direction) and a Federal Bankruptcy Trustee (a court-appointed official who administers a debtor’s bankruptcy estate) in 21 states/jurisdictions on more than 4,000 occasions.
If all of that weren’t enough to keep him busy, McGrew is also licensed aircraft and helicopter pilot, and tri-athlete who annually avoids sharks in the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon in San Francisco Bay.
McGrew is a member of IREM Sacramento Valley Chapter 22.
