(Chicago, Jan. 15, 2013) What leadership skills do today’s real estate managers need to succeed? This question is answered succinctly in a new white paper titled “The Real Estate Management Professional LEADERSHIP COMPETENCY MODEL,” just published by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM).

The first in a planned series of IREM white papers that will explore various leadership-related topics, the new publication identifies 16 leadership competences a real estate manager needs to survive and thrive in the new economy. The skills identified are drawn from the findings of a recent IREM survey of more than 800 top real estate management professionals.

Acknowledging that today’s economy is forcing real estate companies to shift their focus from being performance-driven to relationship-driven, the document is an excellent resource for those interested in moving up the career ladder and leading people, not just managing processes. It emphasizes the four basic components to help real estate managers assess their level of emotional intelligence and provides helpful tips on what it takes to be a good leader and how to get started on the leadership development journey.
