(IREM) Installs 2014 Officers

(Chicago, Oct. 21, 2013) –The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), an international community of more than 18,000 real estate managers across all property types, installed its officers for 2014 during its just-concluded Fall Leadership Conference held in Scottsdale, AZ. Joseph J. Greenblatt, CPM, of San Diego, CA, is the new president; Lori Burger, CPM, PCAM, CCAM, CAM, of Rohnert Park, CA is the new president-elect; and Christopher Mellen, CPM, of Dedham, MA, is the new secretary/treasurer.
GREENBLATT IS PRESIDENT
Greenblatt is president of Sunrise Management, AMO, headquartered in San Diego, with responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company, its portfolio of more than 12,000 resident units, and its 300 employees officed in San Diego and Sacramento, CA; Tempe, AZ; and Las Vegas, NV. He has long been active in IREM’s San Diego Chapter No.18, and has served in numerous chapter leadership positions, including that of president. He was the chapter’s “CPM Candidate of the Year” in 1991 and its “CPM of the Year” in 1994.
Greenblatt also has been active in IREM at the national level. He is a member of IREM’s national faculty, has served as chairman of its national Ethics Hearing and Discipline Board, and as senior vice president with oversight for IREM’s educational programs and activities. He is the recipient of two of IREM’s national service awards, the IREM “Key Award” in September 1993, and its “Past President’s Award “in 1996.
In addition to his IREM membership, Greenblatt is a member of the board of directors of the Bobby Jo Lewis Foundation, a non-profit (501(c)3) organization, and a member of the National Apartment Association (NAA), and NAA’s San Diego Chapter. He also serves on the Real Estate Committee, an advisory group, at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego. As well, he is a member of the National Apartment Association (NAA), NAA’s San Diego Chapter (SDCAA) and the National Multi-Housing Council (NMHC).
BURGER IS PRESIDENT-ELECT
Burger is a senior vice president and Director of Eugene Burger Management Corporation (EBMC), AMO, headquartered in Rohnert Park, CA, whose portfolio consists of more than 6,500 residential units, 20,000 association homes, and 2 million square feet of commercial space. She has managed the full spectrum of residential and commercial property types, and is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of EBMC, a family owned and operated company with 450 employees located in California, Nevada, and other western states.
She has led the way in managing “full envelope” reconstruction projects of aging community association communities, orchestrating numerous multi-million dollar renovation projects. As well, she has written and lectured extensively on a wide range of real estate management and related topics.
Burger earned her CPM designation from IREM in 1984, and has been active in the organization locally and nationally. A past president of IREM chapters in Northern Nevada/Tahoe and San Francisco, she was honored as the chapters’ “CPM of the Year” in 1988 and 1996. She received the Franklyn D. Lyons Award for Outstanding Career Service in 2001 and was inducted into IREM’s Academy of Authors in 2008.
Burger has served IREM as a senior vice president and regional vice president and has been a member and chair of numerous national committees. Along with her CPM designation, she has earned credentials from other professional real estate organizations at the state and national levels. As well, she serves as a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) Global Business and Alliances’ Committee its Resort and Second Home Real Estate Committee.
MELLEN IS SECRETARY/TREASURER
Mellen is a vice president of the Simon Companies, a national real estate owner, manager and developer headquartered in Braintree, MA. With over 30 years of property management experience, he earned IREM’s CPM designation and its Accredited Residential Manager (ARM) certification in 1983.
He has long been active in IREM’s Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4, and has held numerous chapter leadership positions, including that of president. As well, he has been active in IREM at the national level, serving as a senior vice president, regional vice president and as a current member of the IREM Executive Committee.
Mellen is on the real estate faculty of Boston University and also is a faculty member of IREM. He has twice been named “Real Estate Executive of the Month” by the New England Real Estate Journal, and was honored with induction into IREM’s Academy of Authors. He earned a BBA in Real Estate from Temple University and an MS in Management from Boston University; also, a Graduate Certificate in Project Management and a Master’s of Science in Management from Boston University. He holds a Massachusetts real estate broker’s license.
