Historical Commitment to Professional Ethics to be Showcased During IREM Ethics Awareness Month
“Members Don’t Just Talk the Talk, They Also Walk the Walk”

(Chicago, Aug. 1, 2013) –Founded 80 years ago with professional ethics as its cornerstone, the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) has designated September as IREM Ethics Awareness Month, in celebration of its rich ethical heritage. Spearheaded by IREM’s Ethics and Discipline Committee, “the observance will spotlight the fact that IREM Members don’t just talk the talk when it comes to ethics, but they also walk the walk,” said Committee Chair Maleta Brown, CPM. “Consider: As a condition of membership, all IREM Members must pledge to adhere to the rigorously enforced IREM Code of Professional Ethics, with violations subject to serious disciplinary action, including expulsion.”

IREM Headquarters and the organization’s 93 chapters across the U.S. and internationally all will play active roles in Ethics Awareness Month. Initiatives include a marketing and communications campaign highlighting IREM Members’ historical commitment to ethical business practices, plus role playing and other activities at the local level drawn, in part, from a specially prepared Ethics Awareness Chapter Toolkit developed by members of the Ethics and Discipline Committee.
