Department of Energy Withdraws Energy Standards for Residential Furnaces and Air Conditioners — Jan

On January 14, the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) reported that the Department of Energy (DOE) will be withdrawing the minimum energy conservation standards for residential furnaces and for residential central air conditioners and heat pumps.  In 2011, a suit was brought by ACCA and other industry organizations, to the U.S. Court of Appeals against these energy standards. The settlement is expected to be finalized soon and is still pending the Court of Appeals’ authorization.  The DOE will begin the rule-making process in the future to begin work on more appropriate energy standard regulations.
