Presenter: David Ringstrom, CPA
Excel users often spend time repeating work that the spreadsheet could already be handling for them. The challenge is recognizing which tasks actually require human attention and which ones can be shifted to Excel through better use of built-in features.
This presentation answers the question: What work are you still doing manually that Excel could be doing for you?
In this practical session, David Ringstrom, CPA and author of Microsoft 365 Excel for Dummies, helps you recognize situations where human effort is being spent unnecessarily. Rather than focusing on a single Excel feature, you’ll explore common spreadsheet workflows and learn knowledge shortcuts for identifying when Excel can take on more of the work. Along the way, you’ll see ways to reduce repetitive data entry, formula maintenance, formatting, navigation, and other routine tasks while preserving human judgment for decisions that actually require it.
Workflows/features covered include:
- Reducing Repetitive Data Entry: Excel Tables, AutoFill, Flash Fill, Data Validation
- Reducing Formula Maintenance: Structured References, Dynamic Arrays
- Reducing Repetitive Formatting: Excel Tables, Conditional Formatting
- Reducing Navigation Effort: Keyboard Shortcuts, Quick Access Toolbar, Navigation Pane
- Recognizing Automation Opportunities: Identifying repeatable work that can be shifted from the user to Excel
Who should attend: Excel users who find themselves repeatedly entering, adjusting, formatting, navigating, or maintaining spreadsheets and want to recognize where Excel can take on more of that work.
