Course Description

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has released guidance concerning assistance animals, and the obligations of housing providers under the Fair Housing Act (FHA), replacing HUD’s prior guidance from 2013, with respect to animals that individuals may request as reasonable accommodations. While the guidance may not solve all challenges, it is a step in the right direction to minimize abuse and ensure that reasonable accommodations are provided to those in need of them. During this informative course, Doug Chasick, CPM®, will bring you up to speed on the changes you need to be aware of.

Some key takeaways:

  • Accommodations for typical “pet” animals (dogs, cats, birds, etc.)
  • What supporting documentation you should have on file
  • What to do with non-observable disabilities and animals that provide therapeutic emotional support
