Course Description

Presenter: David Ringstrom, CPA

Effective Excel dashboards require more than attractive charts. They depend on clean data, reliable refreshes, and useful interactivity. In this course, Excel expert and author David Ringstrom, CPA, demonstrates how to assemble dynamic dashboards using Excel’s built-in tools while avoiding fragile manual processes.

You'll learn how to import and combine data from multiple Excel sources with Power Query, manage refresh and trust settings for external connections, and load curated data into worksheets for analysis. The course then shows you how to create PivotTables and PivotCharts, add and adjust fields efficiently, and use slicers and timelines to make dashboard filtering more intuitive.

Designed for Excel users who build dashboards, combine data from multiple workbooks, or want more reliable and refreshable reports, this course provides a clear, repeatable approach for creating dashboards that are both informative and resilient.

Learning objectives:

  • Explain how the Merge Queries command combines related data in Power Query
  • Access Query Properties and configure settings that affect connection behavior
  • Explain the purpose of the Data Connection security prompt
  • Create PivotTables and PivotCharts from curated worksheet data
  • Use slicers and timelines to add interactive filtering to an Excel dashboard
