James Scott is Lead Researcher for the MIT Real Estate Innovation Lab (REIL), where he focuses on the intersection of real estate and emerging technologies. REIL combines MIT’s real estate expertise with advanced technological research to explore innovation across the industry.
In his work, Scott has developed a global database of real estate technology companies, identifying more than 1,800 firms and tracking the rapid growth of proptech solutions worldwide. This research highlights the expanding role of technology in shaping real estate operations and strategy.
As Technology Innovator-in-Residence with IREM, Scott focuses on identifying solutions that help property managers operate more efficiently, strengthen property performance, and better serve tenants and clients.
