About the IREM Foundation Board of Directors

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2023-2025 Foundation Board of Directors. Applications for the 2024-2026 Foundation Board of Directors will open in Spring 2023

The IREM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity and was established in 1977. It is supported through donations from IREM members and is led by the Foundation Board of Directors who volunteer their time and expertise to ensure the organization’s success.

Things to know about the Foundation Board of Directors

Foundation Board of Directors must fall within one of the following categories:

  • IREM member who has the skills and knowledge that can help advance the purpose of the IREM Foundation
  • Current or retired real estate manager
  • Educator or researcher

 The role, responsibilities, and expectations include:

  • Serve for the three-year term.
  • Be an annual contributor to the Foundation.
  • Participate in the advancement of the strategic plan of the IREM Foundation.
  • Attend and actively participate in all virtual meetings scheduled throughout the year. Attendance and participation are tracked.
  • Review agendas and relevant materials prior to all meetings to be prepared to contribute to discussions and vote on important issues.
  • Participate in activities as defined by the Board’s scope of work, such as committee activities and/or assist in fundraising activities, which may include seeking sponsorships.
  • Build working relationships with other Directors that contribute to consensus-building and decision-making to benefit the Foundation.
  • Act in good faith and in accordance with what is in the best interest of the Foundation.


  • Is the application to serve as a Foundation Director a new process?

    Applications have been required for all members interested in serving on the Foundation Board since 2019.

  • Is a financial/legal/criminal background check required to serve as a Foundation Director?

    Currently, there is not a background check requirement to serve on the Foundation Board.

  • Who is eligible to apply for the Foundation Board of Directors?

    All IREM members and non-members may apply. You must meet the desired qualifications at the time of applying.

  • What are the next steps after I submit my application?

    The Foundation Nominating Committee vets all applications to ensure all qualifications are met before advancing applicants.

    You may be asked to provide additional information, or to interview with the Foundation Nominating Committee.

    The Foundation  Nominating Committee Chair contacts all candidates and provides specific details.

  • If selected by the Foundation Nominating Committee as a Director candidate, when would I be officially elected?

    If selected, you will be notified in August by the Foundation Nominating Committee. The Foundation Board elects the slate of Director nominees during the Foundation Board of Director’s meeting during the IREM Global Summit. All Foundation Board of Directors’ terms begin January 1.
