IREM® Earns 2021 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award

CHICAGO (April 14, 2021) – IREM (Institute of Real Estate Management) is proud to announce it has received the 2021 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for the fifth consecutive year.

The Sustained Excellence award is the highest honor bestowed by the ENERGY STAR program. Winners are part of a distinguished group that has made a long-term commitment to fighting climate change and protecting public health through energy efficiency. They are among the nation’s leaders in driving value for the environment, the economy, and the American people.

“It’s a privilege to be honored with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award,” says Denise LeDuc-Froemming, IREM Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President. “IREM supports and encourages efforts in real estate management to increase energy efficiencies and reduce carbon emissions. This recognition validates our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment through programs that include CSP certification, and our work with Yardi Systems.”

To earn the 2021 award, IREM led the following initiatives:

  • Advanced the IREM Certified Sustainable Property (CSP) program, a green building certification that leverages and promotes ENERGY STAR tools and resources, and launched Web Services integration development for the CSP application platform, prioritized as the first external API connection.
  • Worked with fellow ENERGY STAR Partner Yardi Systems to release courses on Yardi Aspire, the company’s eLearning solution. Courses include instruction on ENERGY STAR tools and resources, such as the utility data access map tool, whole-building benchmarking in Portfolio Manager, and ENERGY STAR certification.
  • Offered IREM certification course MNT402 “Managing Maintenance Operations and Property Risk” to IREM CPM® (Certified Property Manager) Candidates in several delivery formats, including a new instructor-led Zoom format launched for the pandemic. Course includes content on ENERGY STAR tools and resources.

IREM is further enhancing its sustainability programs through the IREM Foundation.

“ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are showing the world that delivering real climate solutions makes good business sense and promotes job growth,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “Many of them have been doing it for years, inspiring all of us who are committed to tackling the climate crisis and leading the way to a clean energy economy.”

Winners are selected from a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR partners. For a complete list of 2021 winners and more information about ENERGY STAR’s awards program, visit energystar.gov/awardwinners.
