MIT’s James Scott Joins IREM as Innovator-in-Residence

Chicago - (May 30, 2019) – Real estate technologies, or PropTech, are advancing exponentially. Technology can automate manual tasks, enhance customer service, keep property managers informed about potential maintenance issues, and make buildings more energy efficient. But keeping pace with emerging technologies can be a struggle for real estate managers. To stay on top of this fast-changing landscape, the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) has established an Innovator-in-Residence role, which will be filled by James Scott, Lead Researcher for the MIT Real Estate Innovation Lab (REIL).

REIL merges MIT’s school of real estate with its technological capabilities to create an innovative real estate tech research platform. Among other projects at REIL, Scott has been responsible for creating a global database of all real estate-oriented technology companies, and has identified over 1,800, with that number continuing to rise. His experience with this project further validates the impact of technology on the world of real estate. As Innovator-in-Residence at IREM, Scott’s goal is to identify innovations that can help IREM members operate their buildings more efficiently, improve their properties’ competitive positioning, and better serve tenants and clients.

“Scott brings to the position both a background in commercial real estate and a passion for technology,” states Greg Cichy, CPM, IREM Senior Vice President, Colliers International, AMO, Washington, DC. “With his help, our goal is to deliver the tools, services and support our members need to add value to the companies they work for, and the properties they manage.”
