IREM Capitol Hill Fly-in – Only 7 days away!

March 5-6, 2019

IREM will be going to Capitol Hill during the Fly-In next week with two key issues on the agenda – companion animals and flood insurance – both of which are among the top public policy priorities for 2019.

If you or members of your Chapter are attending the Capitol Hill Fly-in, notify IREM HQ about meetings you have scheduled as soon as possible.

Submit meeting details

If you have not yet scheduled your legislative meetings, do so immediately! To learn more about scheduling legislative meetings, check out our webinar recording and the webinar slides.

Also, if your Chapter is unable to go to Washington, you can still have a voice. Contact your legislators’ local offices and set up In-District meetings to inform them about the issues IREM is discussing on the Hill.

*Members can listen to a recorded webinar on issues to discuss with legislators here.

IREM Chapters in Washington and Oregon Issue Calls to Action

IREM recently coordinated with its Chapters in Oregon and Washington on two ‘Call to Action’ campaigns to oppose legislation detrimental to the property management industry.

In Washington, members were asked to contact their legislators to oppose a bill that would severely restrict when and how a landlord can evict tenants.  In Oregon, members reached out to their state representatives to oppose legislation that would enact statewide rent control.

We applaud the efforts of Oregon-Columbia River Chapter President Chris Pasteur, CPM, and Western Washington Chapter Legislative Contact Christy Mays, CPM, for spearheading the outreach in their states.

If you would like assistance in creating a call to action regarding legislation in your state, contact us at IREMLegislation@irem.org

179D Coalition Letter Adds IREM’s Support

IREM is a part of a coalition of industry stakeholders supporting tax extenders including the 179D Energy-Efficient Commercial Building Deduction. Because many of these tax deductions expired at the end of 2018, we have been working with Congress to create a long-term extension.

Earlier this month IREM, along with 60 other organizations, signed on to a coalition letter to Congress supporting an extension of the 179D deduction.

On March 29 at 1pm CDT, IREM invites its members to attend this FREE webinar ($99 for non-members) which will provide an overview on the new Opportunity Zone program and the Section 199A deduction for pass-through entities.  Proposed guidance from the Treasury Department for Opportunity Zones has been issued, and the regulations for the Section 199A deduction were recently finalized. To be delivered by Evan Liddiard, Director of Federal Tax Policy, and Erin Stackley, Senior Representative, Commercial Legislative Policy, of the National Association of REALTORS®, this webinar will examine what questions the recently released rules answered and what issues are still outstanding.
