IREM staff attends 2017 NAR Conference & Expo in Chicago

Last week, IREM staff attended the 2017 National Association of REALTORS (NAR) Conference & Expo in Chicago. The four-day event included over 100 educational sessions, featuring nationally recognized speakers and industry experts; 400 industry vendors which provided the latest innovative tools for real estate professionals; and networking lounges, special events, and the expo show floor.

IREM Government Affairs staff attended a number of public policy focused meetings during the conference, including the Commercial Legislation and Regulatory Advisory Board; Resort and Second Home Real Estate Committee; State and Local Issues Policy Committee; and the Diversity Committee. Staff also attended the Federal Issues Update, which addressed the newly released tax reform bill (H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act) and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Further information on these two issues will be sent out to members shortly.

In addition to the many informative sessions IREM staff attended, IREM Government Affairs Coordinator, Andrew Lomo, presented “What’s new in Fair Housing for rental properties.” This 20-minute overview of Fair Housing laws in rental properties provided a great opportunity to share IREM’s expertise with our REALTOR affiliates and to learn what issues are most pressing at the state and local level.

We thank NAR for the opportunity to be a part of their Conference & Expo, and we look forward to continuing to work with the REALTORS on these issues that affect us all.
