IREM Urges Members to Contact their Federal Legislators to Continue NFIP

December 20, 2017 – IREM recently sent out a call to action encouraging members to contact their Members of Congress and request they continue the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The program is set to expire on December 22, 2017. If allowed to lapse, flood insurance will become much more costly, and in many cases unavailable, causing millions of people and businesses who rely on it to be in danger of losing their coverage. Members can still email their Members of Congress on this important issue.

The NFIP is a partnership between federal, state, and local governments helping over 20,000 communities mitigate flood risk and provide affordable flood insurance to those who need it most. The program provides over 90% of all flood insurance nationwide, and close to 100% for individually owned residential, and small-to-mid-sized commercial properties. This adds up to almost 5 million policies representing over $1 trillion in insurance coverage.
