Live Online Proctoring

Take your certification exams from anywhere with live online proctoring. We partner with third-party live online proctoring provider ProctorU to ensure the security and integrity of our high-stakes exams and the CPM^®, ARM^®, and ACoM^® certifications. As such, ProctorU applies certain parameters to live online test-takers.

Important exam rules

IREM certification exams are open-book; however, only IREM-provided course materials and resources may be used during the exam.

The following are prohibited during the exam session:

• Internet searches (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.)
• AI tools and chatbots (ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, etc.)
• External websites, forums, videos, or third-party study resources
• Assistance from other individuals

You will not be able to navigate through your course during the exam to access materials. Please download and save any permitted materials before your exam session begins.

Violations may result in termination of your exam session, invalidation of exam results, and referral to the IREM Ethics Department for further review.

Step 2: Test your system

Make sure your computer meets requirements and install the Guardian Extension before exam day. Live online proctored exams require Google Chrome and the Guardian Extension.

Before proceeding, confirm:

• Your webcam is working
• Your microphone is working
• Your internet connection is stable

⚠️ Using a work-issued computer?

Corporate security settings, VPNs, remote-access software, and administrative restrictions may interfere with the proctoring process. Complete the system check and install the Guardian Extension several days before your exam to allow time to resolve any issues.

For the most accurate results, complete the system check using the same computer, internet connection, and testing location you plan to use on exam day.

⚠️ Important setup notes

To avoid delays or being unable to start your exam, please review the following:

• Remote access and screen-sharing software
  Applications such as TeamViewer, AnyDesk, GoToMyPC, Remote Desktop, VPNs, and similar tools may interfere with the proctoring process. To help avoid delays or technical issues, we strongly recommend closing these applications before your exam session. These applications may remain installed on your device; however, they may not be actively used during the exam.
• External monitors must be properly configured
  Only one monitor may be used during testing. If you use an external monitor with a laptop, it must be set to mirror your display.
• Mobile phone use during check-in
  You may be asked to use your phone or a mirror during setup to show your testing environment. Once check-in is complete, the proctor will instruct you to place your phone out of reach. Phones are not permitted during the exam.

Before exam day

Before scheduling, review what to expect and how to prepare.

• Download and install the Guardian Extension
• Run ProctorU’s “Test-it-Out” system check
• Use a reliable computer and internet connection
• Prepare a quiet, private testing space
• Plan ahead—do not wait until your deadline
• Schedule at least 72 hours in advance to avoid premium processing fees charged by ProctorU

⚠️Important

Schedule your exam well in advance and allow extra time for check-in, setup, and potential technical issues. Technical issues, system incompatibility, appointment availability, or delays may prevent same-day testing and could result in missing your deadline.
