The 2019 IREM Global Summit Education Sessions Technology - Turning Problems into Innovation

July 18, 2019 | IREM

Technology solves problems. That’s why we rely on it, and why it keeps evolving. Because we never run short of problems. IREM is offering two sessions, described below, at this year’s Global Summit to help real estate managers understand how new technologies can help them solve problems they encounter today, and how these advances will impact their future.

Automation and its Effects on Real Estate

How has technology impacted our lives? And how will it affect our lives in the future? Those are two big questions we’d all like to answer. This session aims to deliver an understanding of an industry in the midst of immense change, and create a picture of what our new world will look like.

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify current and future technology trends
  • Understand how technology has the potential to create efficiencies
  • Recognize how technology will impact real estate management

Speaker: James Scott

Keeping pace with emerging technologies can be a struggle for real estate managers. To stay on top of this landscape, IREM has established an Innovator-in-Residence role, filled by James Scott, lead researcher at the MIT Real Estate Innovation Lab (REIL). REIL merges MIT’s school of real estate with its technological capabilities to create an innovative real estate tech research platform. As Innovator-in-Residence at IREM, Scott’s goal is to identify innovations that can help real estate managers operate their buildings more efficiently, improve their properties’ competitive positioning and better serve tenants and clients.
